Each one is made with alternating metal spikes (not sharp, of course!) and square pyramids. It is 1/2" wide and comes in 5 sizes. To get the correct fit, measure the size of your dog's neck and add 2 inches to the 10- 14" collar measurement. Add 3 inches for the 16-18" collars. Example--A size 10" collar will fit a size 6-8" neck.
